Designer Katherine Kornblau spent her summers growing up on the barrier island of Fire Island, just a ferry ride across the Great South Bay from mainland Long Island, New York. Locals and visitors travel around by (bare) foot, bike and red wagons at this ‘car free’ beach haven. It was here, on the 32-mile long island, known for its pristine beaches and relaxing beachside ambiance that Katherine first began making and selling hand crafted jewelry as a child. Katherine’s Fire Island Collection reflects her lifelong love of this beach community, where everyone knows your name, as it holds a very special place in her heart. Evident in the attention to detail she has given to this ‘labor of love,’ ‘even the wheels turn’ on the little red wagon charm, an iconic symbol of the area and the vehicle once used to peddle her wares near the ferry dock – where it all began.
