Katherine’s lifelong love of art, travel, and global culture is reflected in all of her designs. Her love of travel led her to live for a time in Guadalajara, Mexico. It was here that she first came to know the celebration of The Day of the Dead. The holiday focuses on the gathering of family and friends to pray for and to remember the deceased, and to help support their spiritual journey. People go to cemeteries to be with the souls of the departed and to build private altars containing favorite foods, photos, and memorabilia. The intent is to encourage the souls to visit, so that the souls will hear the prayers and the comments of the living directed to them. Cemeteries are strewn with colorful flowers. Images of the day are always brilliantly colored and playful typically featuring dancing skeletons and highly decorated skulls know as sugar skulls. We feature both the colorful sugar skulls and some fun cast skeletons in this collection.
