The Alexandria collection was inspired by a single Egyptian faience collar dating from the New Kingdom. From that necklace was born an entire collection featuring gold-plated granulated accents and turquoise rondelles. Since these designs are reminiscent of Ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian styles, I named the collection after Alexandria, a city that was inhabited by all three great ancient civilizations. Turquoise was exceptionally fashionable in ancient jewelry. It was, and is, valued for its ability to ward off evil and to attract good health and fortune. Lapis, mined in Afghanistan since ancient times, has been prized for its deep blue color for a millennium. Lapis Lazuli has been said to activate the higher mind and enhance intellectual ability, stimulating the desire for knowledge, truth and understanding. It is interesting to note how ancient these designs look with the brushed gold accents while the same designs with matte silver accents look very modern.
